<SPAN class=art-text>Several confederation competitions are leaving a deep impression on the October FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. Although Brazil are hanging on to top place, world champions Italy (up 3) are hot on their heels, having gained 66 impressive points since September. Germany (6th, up 2) and Greece (14th, up 8), both of whom, like Italy, have won their recent EURO qualifying matches, are also flying high.

There are also some conquering heroes halfway down the ranking. Mali (41st, up 19) and Northern Ireland (45th, up 13) have now returned to the top 50 after a long absence. Mali have never had it so good as in the October FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, whereas the last time Northern Ireland breathed top 50 air was over ten years ago.

Several other teams have jumped up at least thirty places, including Burkina Faso (64th, up 33), Cape Verde Islands (83rd, up 30), Haiti (83rd, up 35), St Vincent and the Grenadines (85th, up 44), and Barbados (100th, up 52).

Of the 125 international matches played last month, 96 were confederation championship qualifiers: UEFA (44 matches), CONCACAF (19), AFC (11) and CAF (22). Twenty-nine friendlies were also contested.

    - The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 22 November 2006.

No congratulations for Boxhill and his team? Didn't we cuss them for allowing our rankings to slip from 40-something into the 70's?

      CONGRATULATIONS to all concerned!

...and, btw -the new FIFA system is explained on the FIFA website. Didn't HL also post it on this forum?

I think this new FIFA positioning of the REGGAE BOYZ is fair!

They have changed it again since the last update of their rankings? If they have, then it surely proves that some cobbler is behind this system!

which take games played in the last four years, andif you look at Jamaica

stats for the last four years you'll see the rankings is close to been fair

We have close to 27 wins (including friendlys as well as official competition) about 18 draws and approximately 22 losses. (you can check the stats at fifa.com)

Not convinced that FIFA has this rankings thing right. They are too proud to adopt the ranking system that is rated more highly over theirs, the one I go to if I need a sense of where a team lies. It's the Elo Rankings. Maybe, one day FIFA's might approximate to theirs. Until then...

Yes...but, we are far better than that loss! Let's face facts, underpreparation did us in in that Digicel CFU Cup competition.

I am also wondering if underpreparation will do us in in the coming U-20 competitive matches. The JFF boys need to realise it is not about defeating Carribean teams, but about having our TEAMs in shape/mindset/physical and technical optimum preparedness to giveVERY BEST EFFORTS and to reap VERY BEST RESULTS.

For example, it certainlyis a crying shame if the potential is FIFA World Championships semi-finals ability and we end up defeating the CFU teams and crashing out at the CONCACAF stage? Right? Does our current football managers get that?

It is certainly a crying shamethat our football is being managed in an awful manner. We have talented playersin abundance...and, it appears on the other side, we have lousy, lazyadministrators in abundance.

How many persons do we have as JFF Officers? ...Executive Committee members? ...Managing Committee members? ...on the JFF's Board of Directors?

I would love to see those JFF persons claim of even one area of the managing of our football that has been well handled since the Boxhill administration took office? ...finances? ...national teams? ...individual players? ...sponsors? ...collection of data? ...use of that data? ...initiatives? ...arrangements surroundingof matches?

Perhaps, the only area with a semblance of competence is apparent is the Public Relations officers - Garth Williams and Janice Rose-Brown.

I just hope you are as demanding for all JFF administrations in the future. You certainly weren't in the past, and few of those areas have ever been properly managed!

It's a pity that the public relations/press team don't have happier news to report because they are doing a splendid job!

Is this - I just hope you are as demanding for all JFF administrations in the future. You certainly weren't in the past... - truth?

I think I have been just as demanding as I was on Burrell and his administration. I would invite you to search your 'memory banks' and my columns on this RBSC site? You will find that I extremely impatient with Burrell and his administration many times...and some said too often gave them a roasting.

Cannot agree with you more. They have been given precious little to work with and as you have said, they are doing a splendid job!
