    Help Needed Out West?

    Am I jumping the gun in thinking that there's something terrible wrong with football in St James? First Seba gets relegated from the NPL and now, after two rounds of games in the promotion qualifiers, Wadadah are still without a win. It would be a travesty should St James not field a team in next seasons's NPL encounters. Afterall, this sector was once the breadbasket of our selection during the previous tenure of the Rene Simoes era.

    In the last 20 years St James gave us players like: Paul "Tegat" Davis; Alton "Noah" Sterling; Allan Latty; Hector Wright; Neville "WeeWah" Brown; Warren "Boopy" Barrett; Surtan "Pele" Thompson; Daniel Ricketts; Theodore "Tappa" Whitmore; Durrant "Tatty" Brown; Noel "Bram Bram" King; "Seba" Wong; Winston "Twinny Bugs" Anglin, Carl Jarrett; Stephen "Shorty" Malcolm and Donovan "Tall P" Ricketts among others.

    Something needs to be done out West to lift the standards so we can once again see the production of good players from that area. But in order for that to happen, one of the first order of the day will be to return Mo Bays powerhouse teams to the upper echelon of Jamaica's local football leagues.

    Who were those who coached (taught, nurtured and developed) those you mentioned?

      Don't remember the coaches. However, things and time have changed and so has the way the game is being coached and played. It may be that the Mo Bay teams are not keeping up with the new innovations in the training regime. I still believe talented players are there in Mobay but a part of the problem also may be in the recruiting. Top teams like Seba and Wadadah need to aggressively recruit the good players from other teams around the Mo bay area whenever they clinch promotions to the NPL. That would be better for the players, better for Mo Bay football and, essentially, better for Jamaica's football.

        The way the playoffs are shaping up, a KSAFA and a St. Catherine team will make it to the NPL. Thus, no Mobay side, with the only western teams being Village and Reno, the latter of which barely survived the drop.

        Tings really nuh look good fi di republic.

          The word is that with the crackdown on the drug trade many of the big Mobay players have been arrested, drying up the support to many of the big teams.

          Another source is needed. Wouldn't we love to see a Sandals-sponsored team take on a Riu side! Yuh know who I'd support!

            Not good for those marketing the game. The 'high quality' matches and biggest entertain draws will be missing! ...the product, the associated 'pull' (including timing and the how of introduction of the young new potential clients) associated with the product lost for 'whatever time the product is not being sold in that 'Western Market'!

            Not good!

              Village and reno need to take heed and start an agressive

              youth program for the future of the west.

                Yes Mo, "Tings really nuh look good fi di republic."

                Sickko needs to write a damning article, berating the St James FA for allowing football to fall to this bottom-of-barrel level in and around MoBay.
                Something has to give because I don't think the dire straits in St James football is due to a lack of talent. The administration need to take a look in the mirror and make wholesale changes if things are to get better.

                  But as bad as Mobay has become (Wadadah losing 11-0 to Rivoli), what about the other parishes around the country? Hanover, St. Elizabeth, St. Mary, St. Ann, Thomas, Manchester - when was the last time we saw any decent teams coming from these parishes?!
