Beasley back on U.S. roster for friendlies

Midfielder DaMarcus Beasley, sidelined by a knee injury since November, was among 33 players on a preliminary roster announced Thursday for upcoming U.S. exhibition games.

A veteran of two World Cups, Beasley returned to training last month after surgery to repair his right knee, injured while he was playing for Scotland's Glasgow Rangers in a European Champions League match on Nov. 27.

Forwards Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Eddie Johnson, Freddy Adu and Jozy Altidore were selected along with goalkeeper Tim Howard.
Goalkeepers Kasey Keller and Marcus Hahnemann were not picked.

Also among the missing is midfielder Bobby Convey, who had a knee injury and played just twice for Reading during the final 3 1/2 months of the English Premier League season.

The United States plays at England (May 28) and at Spain (June 4), then faces Argentina at East Rutherford, N.J. (June 8).

Different 22-man rosters likely will be selected for each game, team spokesman Michael Kammarman said.
After the exhibitions, the U.S. opens World Cup qualifying on June 15 against Barbados at Carson, Calif., then plays at the Caribbean nation June 22.

    The roster:
Goalkeepers: Dominic Cervi (no club), Brad Guzan (Chivas USA), Tim Howard (Everton, England), Troy Perkins (Valerenga, Norway), Chris Seitz (Real Salt Lake)
Defenders: Carlos Bocanegra (Fulham, England), Dan Califf (Midtjylland, Denmark), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover, Germany), Jay DeMerit (Watford, England), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard Liege, Belgium), Michael Orozco (San Luis, Mexico), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock, Germany), Jonathan Spector (West Ham, England)
Midfielders: DeMarcus Beasley ( Rangers (SPL), Freddy Adu (Benfica, Portugal),, Michael Bradley (Heerenveen, Netherlands), Ricardo Clark (Houston), Maurice Edu (Toronto), Benny Feilhaber (Derby, England), Eddie Gaven (Columbus), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Eddie Lewis (Derby, England), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado) Forwards: Jozy Altidore (New York), Brian Ching (Houston), Kenny Cooper (Dallas), Clint Dempsey (Fulham, England), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles), Nate Jaqua (Rheindorf Altach, Austria), Eddie Johnson (Fulham, England), Robbie Rogers (Columbus), Josh Wolff (1860 Munich, Germany)

In a sense, but it's also very sad. It's one thing to support your country of pledged allegiance, but at least Vaz is trying to make a difference in his country of birth.

          I think.

Unuh gi HL a break. If the man feel to support the USA, a country he has lived for maybe longer than he has lived in Jamaica, then let him be. At least Vaz may not have lived outside of Jamaica for any extended period of time.
