The 27-year-old is out until early next year after undergoing surgery.
"It was a freak injury - he just landed awkwardly in training," said Charlton boss Iain Dowie. "It's very unfortunate because he has been working hard."
Meanwhile, winger Jerome Thomas played in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Arsenal on Tuesday, as he steps up his recovery from a broken foot.
Thomas could play in Monday's match at Fulham, and Dowie said: "Jerome is doing well and has trained for a long period.
"While I do not think he will be capable of playing 90 minutes, he is certainly in my thoughts for Monday and after.
"He is someone who can grab you points out of nothing."
Dowie also had good news about Dennis Rommedahl, who played for Denmark during the international break after missing the Premiership defeat to Arsenal with a groin problem.
And Uruguay midfielder Omar Pouso is also close to full match fitness. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
