Guardian Life Limited has renewed its support of football in western Jamaica by committing $500,000 to the St James Football Association Division Two competition.
The funds will go towards prizes, field preparation and other administrative expenses of the Guardian Life Division Two competition which begins to and runs through to July.
Eric Hosin, Guardian Life's senior vice-president of Individual Life Operations, described the partnership as valuable.
"We understand the special role football plays in western Jamaica, and are pleased to have been sponsors of the division for eight years," he said.
He also spoke to the parish's role in national football. "St James has had nine players in the national squad and we expect them to maintain these high standards and make a meaningful contribution to the development of football in the parish, and in Jamaica, especially as we look towards 2010," Hosin noted.
In explaining the significance of Guardian Life's support, Orville Powell, president of the St James FA said: "Guardian's support shows commitment to the community. This sponsorship helps to create an opportunity for the younger set of players to develop and for older players to have a recreational outlet."
Twenty-three clubs will compete in the competition this year and matches will be played at the Albion, UDC, Lion's Den and Jarrett Park playing fields.
