Horace Howell (79th)<P class=StoryText align=justify>Marcelino Blackburn grabbed a double as former champions Arnett Gardens edged rivals Tivoli Gardens, 3-2, for their first win of the Premier League season in an exciting match at the Tony Spaulding Complex yesterday.<P class=StoryText align=justify>The former Charlie Smith and on-loan Harbour View forward netted in the 21st and 56th, while Leon Strickland added the other in the 75th.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Jermaine Taylor in the 62nd and Horace Howell 11 minutes from time, were the scorers for Tivoli.<P class=StoryText align=justify>The win, which lifted Arnett off the bottom of the table, was a "relief" for former Tivoli and now Arnett head coach Glendon 'Admiral' Bailey.<P class=StoryText align=justify>"There was a little mixed emotions there, but I'm now the coach of Arnett Gardens and first and foremost the loyalty must be to Arnett Gardens," Bailey declared.
However, he noted that it was the team's mental preparation that helped them to emerge triumphant.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Arnett Gardens were superb throughout and looked almost reminiscent of the team of old.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Strictland tested Adsel Scott with a low drive from the top of the area just two minutes in as the hosts signalled their intent.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Thirteen minutes into the game Arnett made a series of passes which ended with Adonijah Cameron picking out Daniel Shaw, but Scott was quick off his line to block his shot.
Nicholas McCreath should have put the visitors ahead after 18 minutes, but an alert Julian McLeish denied the striker from six yards after he was picked out by Denroy Gordon.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Arnett looked the more threatening and eventually broke the deadlock when Blackburn slipped marker Victor Thompson, controlled Gerald Neil's cross on his chest before hitting a superb volley past Scott.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Tivoli tried to reply instantly, but McLeish went full stretch to parry Taylor's 25-yard drive for a corner.<P class=StoryText align=justify>On the resumption, the home team continued to find gaps in the Tivoli defence and 11 minutes into the half, Blackburn broke away to shoot under Scott and extend their lead.
Tivoli step up their game and went in search of the equaliser, but Arnett restored their two-goal cushion with 15 minutes to go.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Veteran striker Kevin Wilson, who recieved a warm reception, did not disappoint as he showed great burst of speed to leave the Tivoli defence before crossing to Blackburn, who missed, but Strickland followed up to tuck into the far post.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Tivoli pulled themselves back into contention four minutes later when Christopher Jackson dribbled around the Arnett defence before passing to Howell on the goal l
