The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) yesterday confirmed Shuiabu Amodu as the new head coach of the Super Eagles with Daniel Amokachi and Fatai Amoo to serve as assistant coaches 1 and 2 respectively, while Aloysius Agu will serve as goalkeeper trainer.
By this confirmation, the Super Eagles' technical crew have been mandated to qualify the Super Eagles for the 2010 World Cup and the African Cup of Nations competition, respectively. They have also been told that the team must excel in both championships slated for South Africa and Angola in 2010.
Executive chairman of the Nigeria Football Association, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Lulu said after the board meeting, that the formal unveiling ceremony for the new Eagles coaching crew would be done soon.
NFA has also appointed former Enyimba FC of Aba chief coach, Okey Emordi as the head coach of the home-based Super Eagles. His target is to qualify Nigeria for the inaugural competition of the African Nations Championship for home based national teams next year.
Lulu said the Super Eagles head coach would be given accommodation, Car and enabling environment to succeed.
As regards the salaries of the coaches, Lulu said the package would be announced during the contract signing ceremony, expected to come up soon in view of the nearness of the qualifier matches for the World and Nations Cups in June.
NFA boss disclosed that the football house will make its presentation to Globacom on the appointment of the coaches.
"NFA still has a contract with Globacom for a technical Adviser. We will reach Glo on our decision"
Alhaji Sani Lulu noted that the decision to contract a local coach is based on the conviction that with proper motivation, and given the right enabling environment, they can succeed like their foreign counterparts.
"We believe that Nigeria coaches can perform better. So, let's give them the maximum support to deliver and the good working environment. It is an experiment. Nigeria can be the best in the world. We are not going to hire a foreign technical adviser to boss them, but we want to give them maximum support. We have 2 to 3 months to commence our World Cup and Nations Cup programme and this is no time to embark on searching for a foreign coach. NFA believes in the ability of local coaches. We have given them the target to qualify and go beyond the round of 16 at the World Cup and win the Nations Cup. We will also make it possible for them to win the World Cup. But we need the cooperation of Nigerians and the press for the new coaches to succeed."
