...SDF board votes not to rescue cash-strapped PLCA, say sourcesDANIA BOGLE, Observer staff reporter bogled@jamaicaobserver.com
    Friday, April 18, 2008

THE state-run Sports Development Foundation (SDF) has denied a request for a $28-million bail-out by the Premier League Clubs' Association (PLCA) to run the National Premier League (NPL) for the remainder of the 2007/2008 season after the association severed ties with former sponsor Cash Plus Limited, claim reliable Observer sources yesterday.

Why would they need a bail out? They received more money from Cash Plus this season than they have had in any other season.

NPL rescued as SDF puts up $32 million

          Thursday, 17 April 2008

The RJR Sports Centre understands that the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) has come to the rescue of the National Premier League and will be sponsoring the remainder of the season.

Last week, the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) the body responsible for ensuring the long term financial viability of the league, revealed that they had parted ways with previous sponsors Cash Plus Limited who had only put up $32 million of their promised $50 million for the 2007-08 season.

It is understood that the SDF will be putting up $18 million for club expenses and $10 million towards prizes.

Five more rounds remain to be completed in the League.
