    Schalke v Barcelona preview (ESPN Classic at 5 p.m.)

    Schalke take on Barcelona in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final aiming to capitalise on the Spanish side's poor run of form.


    Barca go into the game with pressure mounting on coach Frank Rijkaard after they threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 at Real Betis at the weekend.

    The Catalan titans have won only one of their last seven games and the Champions League arguably represents their best chance of success this season.

    Barca make the trip to Germany without key duo Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho as they continue their recoveries from injury.

    Portuguese schemer Deco is also unavailable for the visitors through injury.

    Samuel Eto'o has handed Rijkaard a boost by shaking off a calf problem to take his place in the squad and he is set to partner Thierry Henry in attack.

    Defensive duo Gabriel Milito and Rafael Marquez are both fit to play after missing the defeat to Betis.


    Problems



    Schalke coach Mirko Slomka has selection problems in midfield ahead of the clash at the Arena AufSchalke.

    Jermaine Jones is missing through suspension, while Ivan Rakitic and Albert Streit are both injured.

    Schalke skipper Marcelo Bordon is set to play after proving his fitness at the weekend against Karlsruhe.

      Other than Arsenal ... yuh watch football? Barcelona has been pathetic since Messi got injuried. Saturday it was disappointing to see them pull a Bolton by throwing away a 2-0 lead to lose 2-3.

        You may be surprised...but, BoyU, Chelsea, Villa, Liverpool...

        ...& Spurs, Sunderland (the interest is mainly in seeing Keane's growth as coach) & Newcastle (Newcastle since Kenny Daglish one of my favorite players took over)...all get a look in.

        On the continent - Real Madrid and Barcelona (This latter is a good TEAM...that too often forms the ass!)

        ...all others with the exception of our REGGAE BOYZ, whose games good or bad has me riveted...snippets!









        ...ahem? - I watch the USA & Mexico...avidly! Sorry!

          Wait .. mi confused. Why the Empire inna the same sentence wid Liverpool and Chelsea much less the same paragraph? Maybe thats why mi nuh understand what yuh just say. Edit the post and come again.

            ...well throw out that BoyU game...and a few others...but 'pool is a better TEAM than they have showed this year.

            ...funnily Chelsea - currently - is the worse of Arsenal, BoyU and 'Pool but somehow they play below when they meet and ...????? Let's see what happens when they meet BoyU later????

              Why does Frank Rijkarrd continue using Abidal over Sylvino at left back? Okay .. I will admit, I'm a novice and don't even know how many minutes make up a half ... but Sylvino is a much better option especially when overlapping.
