St Ann FA gets new exec

    Devon Evans, Freelance Writer

Two weeks after having his administration dissolved by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) due to an ongoing internal feud, Danny Beckford is back at the helm of the St Ann Football Association, and with a new executive.

Beckford is now chairman of the Interim Executive Committee set up by the JFF to oversee the running of football activities in St Ann over the next four months, when the life of the former executive was scheduled to end.

Beckford defeated challenger David Price 39 to 32 votes in the election which took place at a special general meeting of the St Ann FA held at the Marcus Garvey Technical High School in St Ann's Bay recently.

On February 14, the JFF dissolved the St Ann FA and put in place plans for the election of the interim executive after its investigations proved that there was a serious break down in the relationship between Beckford and members of the executive.

The election was conducted by JFF first vice-president Dale Spencer, with the assistance of JFF Disciplinary Committee Chairman, David Watt, and general secretary of the Eastern Confederation, Rev R. Alexander.
The other members of the committee were all elected unopposed and are deputy chairman Neil Campbell, secretary Elaine Ballyfingh, treasurer Tyrone Rose, Alfred Barnett, Omar Kerr and Maurice Walters.

In his acceptance speech, Beckford said he hoped everyone would put their differences behind them and work along with the interim executive. He also appealed for more corporate support for football in St Ann.
JFF president Captain Horace Burrell, who made a surprise visit via helicopter, commended the delegates for the exemplary manner in which they conducted themselves and pledged to continue supporting the development of football in St Ann.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
