KINGSTON, Jamaica (CP) - Luton Shelton and Demar Phillips scored two minutes apart late in the first half and Jamaica rallied to beat Canada 2-1 on Sunday, avenging last month's friendly loss in Montreal.
Tomasz Radzinski gave the Canadians the lead in the ninth minute, but Shelton's game-tying goal in the 35th minute followed by Phillips' in the 37th minute put the Reggae Boyz ahead.
Canada's interim manager Stephen Hart thought his squad deserved a better result after the Canadians aggressively pushed for the tying goal in the second half.
"(Jamaica) scored two quick goals, literally on the only two chances they had in the first half," said Hart. "We had a number of chances to tie the game and go ahead, and even win the game. I mean of course Jamaica had some chances but we were throwing ourselves forward.
"I think on another day, if those goals go in you would say that we had a very good performance. It's just that sometimes . . . you don't take your chances and the other team does and you end up losing."
Besides revenge for its 1-0 loss on Sept. 4, the victory comes a week after Jamaica was eliminated from the Caribbean Cup and CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying, ousted in group play at home by Haiti and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Radzinski put Canada ahead after collecting a pass atop the penalty area from Rob Friend and beating goalkeeper Richard McCallum, a replacement for the injured Shawn Sawyers.
Despite Canada dictating play, Jamaica tied the game when Shelton finished off a left-sided cross from Phillips.
The winner came after midfielder Jermaine Hue beat four defenders and played the ball to Phillips, who finished with clinical accuracy.
Despite the loss, Hart said Canada played an organized game and praised his team's effort.
"I would say I was very, very pleased with the overall performance, I'm just not happy about the result," Hart said.
