'We spent a lot of time studying Seba'

    Western Bureau:
Village United's impressive resurgence in the 2007-08 Cash Plus Premier League football competition went up another notch on Sunday night when they turned in workman-like performance to upstage Seba United 2-0 in their western derby at Jarrett Park, Montego Bay.

Troy Smith, who struck in the first half and Omar Allen, who doubled the score in the second half, were the players on target for the Paul 'Tegat' Davis-coached Village United which moved into eight place in the overall standings with 32 points, two points behind Seba United, which stayed seventh.

"We are still fighting to move further and further away from the relegation zone and I think we are succeeding," said Davis, the former Seba striker whose tactical brilliance has been the primary source of Village United's recent good form.

He added: "We spent a lot of time studying Seba's style and preparing for this game so the result is not surprising."
Seba United, without head coach Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore who is away with the national team in Brazil, looked good in patches but lost their focus as the game progressed and Village intensified the tempo of their play.

"I thought we prepared well for this game but it just did not happen for us," said Norman Foster, Seba United's stand-in coach. "We have no choice but to go back to the drawing board and regroup for our next game against August Town."

Seba United got back-to-back chances in the sixth and eighth minutes. First, Oliver Trail fired straight at the goalkeeper and then Ricardo Geddes fired wide after breaking free before the goal.

Village should have taken the lead in the 10th minute when Allen's close-range shot was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Jacomena Barrett. Five minutes later, Allen again came close when he shaved the crossbar with a cracking shot from the edge of the penalty area.

After watching Seba United coming very close when goalkeeper Barrett struck a savage 35-yards free-kick inches over the crossbar in the 28th minute, Village United were awarded a penalty in the 30th minute when Orlando McBean was dragged down inside the goal area. Smith made no mistake from the spot, making the half-time score 1-0.

    Ominous
Seba United started the second-half looking ominous and came close in the 47th minute when Omar Reid curled a superb shot towards the goal, but the goalkeeper was well-placed to gather the ball safely.
Despite Seba United bringing on substitutes Daniel Rickettes and Edward Campbell to strengthen their offence, it was Village who struck again in the 52nd minute.

Goalkeeper Barrett blundered badly with an attempted clearance and Allen punished him, side-footing into the empty goal to make the score 2-0.
Towards the end of the game, Village United went into overdrive, running rings around the Seba United defence with Fabian Dawkins, Smith and Allen working well in tandem. Unfortunately, they failed to add to their tally despite severely testing the Seba defense.

Tegat seems to be doing a wonderful job. This Village team has had a most remarkable turnaround.
