Arnett leapfrog Sporting with thumping win

Arnett Gardens recorded an impressive workman-like 4-0 victory over Sporting Central Academy in their Cash Plus Premier League game at Brancourt yesterday.

Victory lifted Arnett to 28 points, while Sporting remain on 26.

Arnett took the lead in the 11th minute when Onandi Lowe picked up a ball in the Sporting Central 18-yard box from a cross and did not hesitate to knock past Sporting's custodian Erron Brown.

Sporting, however, kept their composure for most of the first half and played good football as they appeared set to take the interval with only a minor setback.

However, Arnett made a break on the stroke of half time and finished in deadly fashion to double their lead when Oneil Robinson picked up a ball on the edge of the 18-yard box, then fired a cracker past Brown.

Arnett came out attacking early in the second half and dominated for the most of the second period, even though Sporting could have scored in the 65th minute when Hughan Grey had only Arnett custodian Julian McLeish to beat, but kicked the ball in his hands.

They paid dearly for that miss as Arnett again struck one minute later through a counter and Fabian Davis did not hesitate to shoot the ball into the roof of the net, beating Sporting Central substitute goalkeeper Waldo Ricketts, to put his team into an unassaibable 3-0 lead.

Arnett polished things off in the 86th minute after they got a free kick on the edge of Sporting Central's penalty box and substitute Garfield Rennicks scored a well-placed shot.

"They played creditably well in all departments and their concentration was good and the finishing was tremendously good," said Arnett's coach Jerome Waite.

He added: "What surprised me is that the opponent did not have anything to offer in this game."

Sporting Central's coach, Christopher Dawes, credited his team loss to the inability of his players to score.
