Boyz, Girlz squads for training camp in Brazil

SIMOES... invited 24 men and 19 women for Feb 28 to March 18 camp

A local-based Reggae Boyz and the Senior Reggae Girlz squads were named to depart the island next week for training camps in Brazil.

Technical director Rene Simoes has invited 24 males and 19 females to a training camp to be held in his native Brazil over the period February 28 to March 18, 2008.

The local chapter of the Reggae Boyz squad will be preparing for the 2010 World Cup Qualifying Series, which is slated to begin on June 14.

They will leave the island on Thursday, and return, on March 18.

The female team which will be engaged in Women's Olympic CONCACAF Qualifiers in April in Mexico, will depart the island on February 27 and return on March 12.

Four Harbour View players - Dwayne Miller, Christopher Harvey, Lance Laing and Kavin Bryan - were originally selected, but will miss the trip because their club requested that they return home early for the CONCACAF Club Championships Cup to be held March 11 - March 18.

Simoes has suggested that these players not travel to Brazil in order for them to maximise their preparation for the regional competition.

These players have been replaced by the Waterhouse trio of Maurice Evans, Desmond Breakenridge and Irvino English, as well as Portmore's young striker James Thomas.
Simoes also stressed that one of the main aims of the national programme at this time is international exposure and proper preparation for and participation in the CONCACAF Championship will meet that objective.
