However the goalkeeper, is scrambling back to recover the ball.


The defender's clearance hits hits his goalkeeper in the hands. What happens?

At what point does the ball become dead? If the clearance hit the goalkeeper in the hands, and back into the net, is it an own goal?


If the defender's clearance hit the goalkeeper in the hands then went to an OFFENSIVE player who fired the ball into the net is it a goal?

Does the goalie hang on to the ball? Then the ball is his and he punts it or throws it out within 6 seconds thereafter. The ball is not "dead". If he does not hang on to it, then the scramble continues.

At what point does the ball become dead?

It becomes dead only if it crosses the touchline (goal, corner or goal kick) or if some foul is committed.

Yes, that would be an own goal.
