Boyz could face Argentina in May

Jamaica's Reggae Boyz could match their footballing skills against the magic of Argentina's Lionel Messi and Juan Roman Riquelme in an international friendly game in London, England, on May 31, if the two federations can agree to terms.
The two-time world champions, Argentina, are rated number one on the FIFA rankings and are currently advertising the game as a fixture on their website, though negotiations have not been finalised.
Captain Horace Burrell, head of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), hinted at the possibility of the game on Monday night's What's the Score programme on Irie FM radio.
But another JFF source told the Observer on Monday evening that the two parties have been in dialogue "since December", and he was hopeful that there could be some finality on the matter by weekend.
If the game materialises, it would rank as the best team Jamaica has competed against since their 0-1 loss to five-time world champions Brazil in Leicester City, England, in 2003.
Jamaica last played against the South Americans on June 21, 1998 at the Parc des Princes in Paris, France, in a Group H FIFA World Cup Finals second-round encounter.
Argentina's leading all-time goal-scorer, Gabriel Batistuta, led the then Daniel Passarella-coached team to a convincing 5-0 whipping of the Reggae Boyz with a hat-trick. He was ably assisted by the skilful Ariel Ortega, who now captains River Plate.
Jamaica lost 0-6 when they first played against Argentina in the Pan American Games in Mexico in 1975.
Jamaica's next assignment will be a friendly international against Caribbean neighbours Trinidad & Tobago at the National Stadium on March 26. A return-leg game is set for Port of Spain, Trinidad, on June 7.
