Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) boost for football
    published: Tuesday | February 5, 2008

    Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

Glory days are truly here again as the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) have added yet another sponsor to their ever-growing list. The Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) Limited are now the official title sponsors of the Reggae Boyz friendly international against Costa Rica at the National Stadium tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.

The company has also signed on as a gold sponsor, for the next three years, for the Boyz who are continuing their preparation for the South Africa 2010 World Cup eliminators that will begin in June.

"We want the Reggae Boyz and all our clients and potential clients to achieve their goals and we believe that a partnership between the JFF and the JMMB is the first step in achieving them," said Keith Duncan, chief executive officer JMMB, in announcing the sponsorship yesterday at the JMMB offices in New Kingston.

Captain Horace Burrell, JFF president, is projecting that they "...will need a total of $1.3 billion over the next 30 months" to achieve its World Cup objectives.

Duncan, in response, stated that JMMB was in full support of the Reggae Boyz journey to South Africa and the company intended to leverage the sponsorship in line with JMMB's strategic goals.

    Win-win situation

"We will be offering football fans the opportunity to save to attend the World Cup in South Africa in 2010. We will show them how they can achieve their goals, including free financial planning consultations, loans for fans that wish to travel to watch the Boyz in South Africa, and travel insurance, among many other exciting initiatives," he said.

Captain Burrell indicated that the JFF needs corporate sponsorship to achieve its goals.

"We want to thank JMMB for responding so quickly to us and at the same time we want to encourage other corporate entities to come on board. The benefits are tremendous," " he said.

No details of the deal were given, and Marguerite Cremin, group marketing manager, JMMB, stated that, "We cannot disclose the details of the sponsorship arrangement but it is a win-win situation for both JFF and JMMB."

T anticipation for tomorrow's game, Donna Duncan-Scott, executive director of culture, leadership and development, announced that for every goal that the Reggae Boyz score on Wednesday night JMMB will donate $50,000 to the SOS Children's Village.

The children will be accompanying the players onto the field tomorrow evening.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB ) will be the title sponsor of the Jamaica/Costa Rica International Friendly on Wednesday, it was announced at their Haughton Avenue office yesterday.

JMMB, one of the largest securities brokerage houses in the island, has signed on as Gold sponsors of the Reggae Boyz for their journey to South Africa 2010.

The extent of the financial sponsorship was not divulged by JMMB or the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF).
However, Keith Duncan, JMMB's group CEO, said he wanted the Reggae Boyz and his clients to achieve their goals, and this partnership is the first step in doing that and he is happy to be on board.

Said Duncan: "We will be offering football fans the opportunity to save to go to the World Cup in South Africa in 2010. We will be introducing loans for South Africa at special rates and many other products."

In addition, JMMB will be donating $50,000 to the SOS Children Village for every goal scored by the Reggae Boyz on Wednesday. The children will accompany the players onto the field prior to the start of the game.
JFF president Captain Horace Burrell thanked JMMB for coming on board at such a short notice, after the initial sponsor of the match pulled out.

"Our treasurer made a special effort to get us a sponsor and within 48 hours last week JMMB responded and came on board," said Captain Burrell.
"Without corporate sponsorship it would not be possible to move our football forward. This programme is a very costly programme," he added.

In the meantime, 11 local-based players were chosen from the 24 who attended the week-long training last week.
Harbour View's left back Lance Laing made the cut alongside fellow Harbour View players - goalkeeper Dwayne Miller, Christopher Harvey and Jermaine Hue.

The list is dominated by six players from Portmore United in Dwayne Kerr, Rudolph Austin, Wolry Wolfe, Adrian Reid, Roen Nelson and Ricardo Cousins.
Nicholy Findlayson of Reno is the only player from outside Kingston and St Andrew and St Catherine to make the cut.

The squad will be further trimmed to 18 for Wednesday's game which means that of the 11 local-based players, only five should complement the 13 overseas-based players.

All the overseas-based players are now in the island, with the exception of the injured Claude Davis (Derby County), who will not make the trip, and Jason Morrison (Royal Whitestar), who was scheduled to arrive yesterday.

Marlon King (Wigan), Ricardo Gardner (Bolton), Donovan Ricketts (Bradford City), Ian Goodison (Tranmere) were in attendance at the JMMB press launch.

Ricardo Fuller, Demar Phillips (Stoke City), Damion Stewart (Queens Park Rangers), Tyrone Marshall (Toronto FC), Shavar Thomas (Chivas), Omar Daley (Bradford City), Jamal Campbell-Ryce (Barnsley) and Luton Shelton (Sheffield United) are the other overseas-based players here.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

One thing mi did warn bout
is dat the Captain is a part of the club. He has the Brasilian connection (this in turn gets the business sector of Ja jumping through hoops)

You have to be annoited in the football business, you just don't run a coup. I think it's gentleman's understanding within the club.

Do not take what I said in the above lightly.
