Pompey agree a fee for Spurs striker Defoe

Tottenham and Portsmouth have agreed a fee for Jermain Defoe, leaving the player to decide whether he wants to move to Fratton Park.

The 25-year-old striker is out of contract at Spurs at the end of next season and has been linked with a move while negotiations have been unresolved.

He has also struggled for regular opportunities under head coach Juande Ramos, with the Spaniard preferring Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov in attack for important matches.

Ramos and Defoe fell out after a training ground incident at the start of the month but have since patched up their relationship, and the striker has talked about signing a new deal.

However, his lack of action has seen him linked with other Barclays Premier League clubs.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp, who worked with Defoe at West Ham, was monitoring the striker's situation in the summer but no deal was agreed.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

Defoe is a very good player. He should make Pompey stronger.

Yes and No ! Yes, he needs to go to a team and start more games, last year he scored 18 goals coming off the bench. No, I think he is a very good fit for Spurs in the games that Keanne doesn't fair well in, games where you need a true finisher of someone to go one on one against tight defenses.

I understand the move though and wish him well. the question for Spurs now is who do we get? We need a third option and Darren Bent is not it.
