Facts on PLCA and Cash Plus

    Thursday, January 24, 2008

    Dear Editor,
We write to you in relation to an article in your paper on January 11, "Seaga fails again" by Dr Henley Morgan. We believe that various assertions, allegations and inconsistent remarks in the article need to be corrected on the issue of the sponsorship arrangement with the Cash Plus Group and the Premier League Clubs Association. The facts are:
    (1) The Premier League Clubs Association did not receive any sums of money to reinvest in Cash Plus. As a matter of fact, at no time were there any discussions to this effect.

    (2) The Premier League Clubs Association's contract with Cash Plus stipulates monthly payments, and these payments have been met as agreed until December 2007.

    (3) The association wishes to remind the writer that the Cash Plus sponsorship agreement was concluded when the Premier League was in a crisis with no sponsor.

    (4) Historically, in three months, through this sponsorship arrangement, the Premier League clubs have received more than they would normally receive for a full year.

The PLCA would like to thank our chairman for his tremendous contribution to football and unifying the Premier League clubs for the first time in history.

We hope that the author will correct the inaccuracies contained in the article as we recognise that the views and information presented are not necessarily those of the Jamaica Observer.
