Jamaican International Marlon King is expected to get a second crack at life in English Football's top flight as his Championship division outfit, Watford, have accepted a five million pounds bid for the striker from Premier League strugglers Fulham.
The West London team have been in hot pursuit of the striker since the opening of the transfer window in January and have seen initial bids for £3.5m, £4m and £4.5m all turned down, followed by Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd's insistence that the striker was not for sale. It seems, however, that Fulham's final offer of £5m was too good to turn down.
King had a brief stint in the Premier League two seasons ago, but that was cut short by an injury against Arsenal in November of 2006. Interestedly should King's medical and terms of agreement be finished in time, it will be Arsenal that King could suit up against for Fulham come tomorrow.
Good memories
King has scored 37 goals in 82 starts for the Hornets and has 11 goals for Watford so far this season. While having good memories of life at Hertfordshire Club the striker is grateful for a chance to return to the top flight.
"I've got fond memories of Watford but this is a new chapter in my life," King told Sky Sports News in a report carried by the Sporting Life website.
"Last time in the Premier League my season was cut short by injury, but this opportunity has come up. We've got Arsenal on Saturday and I'm looking forward to that," he said.
"It's disappointing because I've got a lot of mates at Watford.
"The fans have been magnificent to me, and the chairman and manager didn't want me to go.
"But in my heart I knew it's an opportunity I've got to seize and I'm looking forward to the new challenge.
"I'm going to be a Watford fan now and look out for their result - hopefully Fulham stay up and that'll be the ideal fixture for me next season.
"I wouldn't be here if I didn't think Fulham had the chance of staying up," he said.
King is expected to be recalled for national duty when Jamaica's Reggae Boyz take on Costa Rica on February 6 at the National Stadium. King saw a two-year ban, imposed on him by the previous JFF administration in June 2006, rescinded by the newly appointed JFF administration when they took office in November. King has six goals in twelve appearances for the national team so far.
