£7million striker swoop turned down
Bolton are reported to have failed with a £7m bid for Manchester United striker Louis Saha following the departure of Nicolas Anelka.
Wanderers boss Gary Megson has the £15million raised from Anelka's sale burning a hole in his pocket and he wanted to use just under half of it on fellow Frenchman Saha.
Saha would have been the ideal replacement for Anelka but when he asked about the player's availability, Megson was told by his United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson that he was not for sale.
The Reds are hardly well blessed for strikers as it is and Saha is firmly in Ferguson's plans as United battle on domestic and European fronts this season.
Megson has been busy strengthening his defence so far this January but he is desperate to sign a new striker and is saving the bulk of his cash to get one in.
