    Onandi's bail extended

    Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

    Spanish Town
Former Reggae Boy Onandi Lowe, had his bail extended when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on drug- related charges on Tuesday.
Lowe and four others, Sophia Stewart, Damion Perry, Orlando Isaacs and Jermaine Ellis, were charged recently when ganja was found in a car in which they were travelling.
All pleaded not guilty except for Isaacs who claimed full responsibility for the drugs. "Your Honour, I am guilty. A my ganja and a my chilum pipe and mi tell the police them from them ole wi that the things them belong to mi," remark Isaacs.
The clerk of court told RM Lorna Errar Gayle that the crown would not accept Isaacs' plea of guilt. This was after the arresting officer, Special Sergeant Owen McLean of the Spanish Town police, outlined that the drug in question, 47 packets of ganja, was taken from a compartment in the Honda that Lowe was driving when the police stopped him.
The officer told the court that about 12:50 p.m., December 23, while he and other officers were doing spot checks along a section of the Spanish Town by-pass, Lowe's vehicle, with the four occupants, was stopped.
After searching all persons and finding nothing, the vehicle was searched and ganja weighing about two pound was found. A check of the trunk revealed a chilum pipe and two knives.
The five were later charged with possession and dealing in ganja and subsequently granted bail at the station. Before extending their bails until February 19, the RM ordered that all five be finger- printed. She told them that the crown had the right to accept or reject all pleas.
Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.

So If they don't accept his guilty plea is ISAACS now cleared of all charges?

I have never heard of a judge that did not accept a guilty plea.

THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

All the argument for it to remain illegal , is ridiculous .If they want to say illegal for export well yes, but come on its intergal in Jamaican culture.

                1)Herbal/Medicinal
                2)Religous
                3)Culinary
                4)Recreational.

The latter is the reason why its is banned. Is this psychosis. To top it off , its legal in some european countries.

What Jamaica should do to appease the yanks , is legalise it in Jamaica and make it illegal for export set up red zones for it to be sold.

Problem solved. Our economy would post a 6% growth every year.

LOL.... not to mention cigars and ciggarettes .I dont see the sense in criminalising the youths and burdening the nation with astronomical court cost for petty fines.

Legalise it, who are we fooling when we slap a fine on an individual for pounds of ganja , lets face it no one does hard time for ganja in Jamaica.

i knew a man who got caught with 20 pounds in Jamaica did 6 months in Ja.Another with the same amount in the usa gets avergare 4-5 years and then deported.

                    Who are we fooling!
