Rene Simoes has been hired by the Jamaica Football Federation to coach both the men's and women's National Teams.

Simoes, who led Jamaica to its only appearance in the World Cup in 1998, will return as manager in time for the start of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying early next year. Since resigning from his post in February of 2000, the 54-year-old Brazilian coached Trinidad & Tobago's National Team, led the Brazil Women's National Team to the Gold Medal match at the 2004 Olympics and spent the past two seasons coaching at Cortiba in Brazil. He also spent a brief time as the manager of Iran's U-23 team in 2006.

Simoes will bring in Glydston Ananias, Alfredo Montesso, and goalkeeper coach Chio Santos as assistant coaches.

This hiring comes a month after legendary coach Bora Milutinovic was fired as manager for breach of contract.

Jamaica will take on the winner of Bahamas-British Virgin Islands in a home-and-away series next June, with the victor moving on to the semifinal round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying in the fall of 2008.
