  • Goal scoring celebrations

Carlos Tevez's dummy-sucking celebration yesterday was the latest in a line of memorable and bizarre reactions from footballers after a goal has been scored.

ROGER MILLA (Cameroon v Romania, 1990 World Cup)

The celebration that now boasts a thousand variations, Cameroon veteran Milla's dance around the corner flag was one of the

BEBETO (Brazil v Holland, 1994 World Cup)

Another of the game's most imitated celebrations, Bebeto mimed rocking a baby along with Brazil team-mates Romario and Mazinho to mark the birth of his third child.

JURGEN KLINSMANN (Sheffield Wednesday v Tottenham, Premier League 1994-95)

Klinsmann immediately endeared himself to English fans on his Tottenham debut by poking fun at his reputation as a diver by celebrating a goal in precisely that manner at Hillsborough.

PAUL GASCOIGNE (England v Scotland, Euro 96)

Going into Euro 96, England had been criticised for their drinking antics on a far-east trip, with pictures of players having alcohol poured down their throats in a 'dentist's chair'. After scoring the goal of the tournament, Gazza could not resist paying tribute to that infamous night.

TEMURI KETSBAIA (Newcastle v Bolton, Premier League 1997-98)

No-one could have predicted how substitute Ketsbaia would respond to his last-gasp winner against Bolton in 1998. The Georgian - apparently frustrated at being left out of the starting XI - tore off his shirt and began kicking the advertising hoardings in one of the most aggressive celebrations ever seen.

ROBBIE FOWLER (Liverpool v Everton, Premier League 1998-99)

Fowler caused uproar after responding to taunts from Everton fans by mimicking cocaine sniffing on the touchline after scoring in the Merseyside derby.

FACUNDO SAVA (Fulham v Charlton, Premier League 2002-03)

One of the most bizarre celebrations of all, Argentinian Sava responded to scoring his first goal at Craven Cottage by donning a Zorro mask he had stashed down his sock.

PETER CROUCH (England v Hungary, 2006 friendly international)

Crouch proved being tall and wiry was no bar to 'throwing some shapes' with his robot dance celebration after scoring against Hungary.

An addition .... Pepe scored his first goal for Jamaica, ran over to the touchline facing the grandstand and did a strange dance.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

    This list is a fraud

No list like this can be complete without the mention of the Nigerian player(can't remember the name) who celebrated his goal in the 1994 world cup by going to the corner flag getting on all fours and simulated ****************ing peeing like a dog. Hind leg up and all.

Yes, the list must have been truncated. The best one, still, is there - Robbie Fowler's!

Scaly that was Finidi George who did that celebration. I remember it clearly! LOL......That 94 Nigeria team was damn talented. They were good enough to get to the finals that year. I still shake my head when I think about how they completely mismanaged the end of that match with Italy. As well I curse the referee because Rashidi Yekini was in on goal by himself to ice the game and paolo maldini jumped on his back and pulled him down and only got a yellow card. A complete injustice. If Italy had gone down rightfully to 10 men that day Nigeria would have gone through.

In either case the original point of my post was that it was Finidi George with the peeing celebration. LOL. - T.K.

I still think Fabian Taylor's goal celebration for the Metro Girls when he took off his shoe and put on the corner flag was one of the all time great ones. He then got down on his knees and prayed/worshipped his shoe. It was one of the best! - T.K.
