Canada's road to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa will begin with a home-and-away series against St. Vincent and the Grenadines after yesterday's preliminary CONCACAF draw in Durban, South Africa. The first match will be played in Canada in June. The road will likely get rougher should Canada, currently ranked No. 55 by FIFA, get past St. Vincent and the Grenadines, ranked No. 77. Canada could move on to a semi-final group that might include Mexico (ranked No. 15), Honduras (No. 54) and Jamaica (No. 98). There are 35 teams in CONCACAF fighting for only three spots in South Africa and a playoff will offer a fourth team the chance to make the trip to the world's biggest stage. "I don't think that you can take that game too lightly," Canadian head coach Dale Mitchell said from Durban about the series. "We will find out what they are all about [in the coming months]. It's good to know who you are going to play [because] a lot of teams don't have that advantage."
