Once fully completed in April 2008, it will be used mostly for Montreal Impactsoccer games. The stadium is being built on the former practice track and field site from the 1976 Summer Olympics. The west side of the new stadium will have a view of Olympic Stadium's incline tower. The stadium will hold around 13,500 people and can be expand to 17,000 in the future for possible MLS expansion plans. Its main tenant will be the Montreal Impact, partially owned by the Québec company Saputo. The stadium will be named after the family, and not the company.
Saputo Stadium will cost 15 million Canadian dollars. Half of it will be paid by the Saputo family, and the rest will come from other private sector contributions. Saputo Stadium will have 3 training fields, one indoor field, 20 corporate boxes and six dressing rooms. The complex will cover 1.6 million square feet. While it will be mostly used by Montréal's soccer team, the Montreal Impact, other local teams will also be allowed to play there.
