Megson's tribute to travelling White Army
Wanderers boss manager Gary Megson has dedicated the superb Uefa Cup victory against Red Star to the club's supporters who had an unhappy time at the hands of Belgrade police.
Throughout the day in the Serbia capital, hundreds of fans, many on the official trip, were detained in a hotel in the capital.
The Serbian police banned them from visiting the city centre because they feared clashes with Red Star supporters.
Megson said: "Hopefully the result will go some way to appeasing the fans a little bit.
"The team have done well to create a little bit of history as well.
"It was not right people were kept in a paddock as they had done nothing wrong.
"I have to thank them for coming. We were aware they had been kept behind and were not being treated as people should in a foreign country.
"I am sure the police and the authorities made that decision in good faith but it was not right."
Wanderers became the first British team to win at the Marakana thanks to Gavin McCann's first goal for the club in their last group game.
Depending on results in the final round of matches, they are with a chance as well of progressing to the last 32 of the competition.
