Seven in chase for final

WITH TWO official sets of matches to play in the first round of the Cash Plus Premier League, today's full schedule of games takes on added significance with seven teams in with a chance of earning a place in the end-of-round final.
The top seven teams begin with Portmore United and end with Boys' Town and also include Seba United, Tivoli Gardens, defending champions Harbour View, Arnett Gardens and newcomers St. Georges.
All have a mathematical possibility of contesting the final. Of the seven though, the favourites would be Portmore and Seba, especially when the upcoming matches are taken into consideration.
Portmore could end the round with a maximum of 26 points if they win their remaining matches which includes a rescheduled home fixture against Seba and their last game of the round against Reno at STETHS.
On current form, it would be difficult to bet against them advancing.
The most points Seba can accumulate is 25, which would include a win over Portmore United. Even with a loss to Portmore and a win over Reno today and another win in their final game against Sporting Central, away, they could still end up on 22 points, one above what Harbour View and Tivoli could amass.
Boys' Town can end with 19 points but, as is the case for Arnett Gardens and St. Georges, the probability of advancement is small because they would have to depend too much on the misfortune of the teams above them in order to get into the final.
Fans in for a treat
As far as today's games are concerned, football fans in western Jamaica could be in for a treat if they decided to witness the encounter between Seba and Reno at Jarrett Park. Based on the attractive brand of football now being played by Seba, there is no reason to believe that a big crowd will not turn out to see former national teammates Theodore Whitmore and Aaron Lawrence marshalling their troops.
Ricardo Geddes, Delroy Ellis and Keniel Moodie have looked particularly good for Seba in combination with their more experienced teammates, Norman Foster, Daniel Ricketts and Wilfred Smith. Reno have in their squad Kendrie Quarrie, Fabian Blake, Kirk Wright, Nicholi Findlayson and Obrian Woodbine.
All these players can dazzle on their day. If they play to the best of their ability then at least the fans should enjoy themselves.
Historically, matches between Portmore United and Arnett Gardens have always been keenly contested but this season Portmore could just have that little bit extra quality to take them past Arnett Gardens.
The St. Catherine team is not known to panic in these kinds of situations, so it can be banked on to get at least a point.
Harbour View are a proud team team and two losses in a row would still be hurting. Against improving Tivoli Gardens today, Harbour View can be counted on to rebound. In the two games that they lost, Harbour View were troubled by absences through suspensions and injuries. Today they should have most, if not all of them available for selection.
Among those who will be making their way back are midfield general Jermaine Hue, forwards Kavin Bryan and Gregg Taylor, utility player Lovel Palmer and defender Christopher Harvey. They are expected to have a big impact on Harbour View's play.
Tivoli Gardens will look to Kasai Hines, Christopher Jackson, Orane Simpson, Denroy Gordon and Roberto Fletcher.
St. Georges have shown themselves to be competitive in the league, particularly at home. Today should be no different when they host Boys' Town. This game could go either way. The August Town/Sporting Central match should be no different.
Village are yet to win a match this season and a victory over Waterhouse could give them just the bounce they need. Waterhouse, on the other hand, have underachieved so far and a loss to Village United will be cause for even more serious introspection.
