    Reggae Girlz strike again
...Crush Antigua & Barbuda 7-0 in U-17 qualifierLivingston Scott
    Saturday, November 24, 2007

Jamaica's Under-17 women's footballers led by a hattrick from Shenika Williams scored another impressive win in the second game of their Group B World Cup qualifiers, whipping hosts nation Antigua and Barbuda 7-0 in the second game of a double-header at the Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG) yesterday.

In the other game, the Cayman Islands defeated the US Virgin Islands 4-0 to set up a mouth-watering final match against the Jamaicans today at 6:00 pm at the same venue.

Jamaica, who defeated the US Virgin Island 8-0 in their opening game, got their goals yesterday through Williams who scored in the (61st, 90th and 92nd minutes), Vanessa Ramsey (28th and 45th), Sashana Campbell (34th) and Melissa Madden (62nd).

Jamaica's coach, Junior Francis. was very impressed with the Girlz's performance.
"When your team score seven goals you must feel good and it must be a good game by your team," he said.

"But I think the Girlz responded to instructions very well as Antigua came out and tried to hold us and block our path to goals. But we switched to plan B by going through the middle and we managed to dissect them and got the better of them," he added.

Antigua and Barbuda's Rowan Benjamin was disappointed with the result, but thought his first choice goalkeeper's absence was a major factor.
"Our number one goalkeeper, who is also the national goalkeeper, got injured about a week ago and that was a big blow for us, as the second 'keeper is not that technically advanced," he explained.

The Jamaicans started brightly, pestering the Antiguan goal for the first 10 minutes, but were unable to find the net despite good chances falling to Monique Pryce and Sherona Forrester.

After 15 minutes, the home team looked like coming into their own, but the Jamaicans were always in control and Williams should have handed the Jamaicans the lead when she kicked straight to goalkeeper, Amelia Green.
In the 28th minute, Williams had a shot blocked from six yards, however, Jodian Morris, retrieved the ball and crossed inside the box, and when the Antiguan defence failed to get rid of the danger, Ramsey picked up the loose ball and beat Green with weak shot.

The goal helped the Girlz to settle and they mounted numerous attacks, and eight minutes later, Campbell added the second, tapping into an empty net after Williams' shot crashed against crossbar and rebounded into play in the 34th minute.

The second goal almost completely knocked the wind out of the hosts, and the Girlz wasted a number of other opportunities to score again.
However, they made it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time, when Ramsey ran onto a pass and placed the ball around Green.

Immediately after the restart, the home team were on the back foot, with Ramsey, Morris and Forrester all missing good chances, in the first five minutes.

But Williams made it 4-0 with her first of the match, although there was some confusion as to who scored, as she and Ramsay both attacked the ball and ended up in the net. Madden added a fifth two minutes later, beating the goalkeeper Green with a superb volley from 25 yards.
But Campbell, Williams and Ramsay continued to squander good opportunities as the home team seemed comfortable to stay in their half of the field and defend.

But that backfired when defender Satoni Edwards headed past her own goalkeeper to make it 5-0.
