  • England drop beckham and robinson

    England v Croatia
    Wembley, London
    Wednesday 21 November
    Kick-off: 2000 GMT
Coverage: Live on BBC One & BBC Radio 5 Live (commentary on BBC Sport website for UK users only); Coverage on BBC Sport website
Paul Robinson will play no part in England's vital Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia on Wednesday after being dropped by coach Steve McClaren.
Aston Villa's Scott Carson gets the nod for his first competitive start for England and Portsmouth stopper David James is on the bench at Wembley.
Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips replaces David Beckham on the right.
Gareth Barry, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole and Steven Gerrard complete a five-man midfield, with Peter Crouch up front.

England team: Carson, Richards, Bridge, Campbell, Lescott, Barry, Wright-Phillips, Gerrard, Lampard, Joe Cole, Crouch.
Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.

Well ... it seems as if any keeper England start ... give a reason why they're the wrong choice. Croatia 1 - England 0.

I can't see that English backline having any success against a half decent team.

Seeing the match card, I was shocked. Him using a rookie keeper yet him start Lescott who is playing his 3rd or 4th game ... looked like a deer before headlights in Russia. While Wes Brown with int'l experience is on the bench. Yes, him can pull a Karl every now and then .. but him and Sol with Cole on the left and Richards on the right is their best option.
