Football chief could be hired by end of November
The BFA 'hopes' to make a decision on who its new technical director will be by the end of the month and will begin interviewing candidates in the next few weeks.
Speculation is rife about who will take the top job in the game with names like former Liverpool star John Barnes, New England assistant coach Paul Mariner and Brazilian tactician Rene Simoes linked with the $125,000-a-year post.
But like a well-seasoned poker player the BFA is holding its cards close to the chest, refusing to confirm or deny any names supposedly on the short-list.
One thing is certain, the new Technical Director, who will be in charge of implementing the BFA's $36million six-year-plan, won't be a Bermudian.
Mark Trott, the BFA's technical committee chairman, said that the interview process should start shortly.
"We are now in the process of contacting the candidates to confirm that they'll be able to come to Bermuda to be interviewed. We've given them dates to look at, but they need to get back to us to let us know.
"Our plan is to interview them this month, hopefully, with the aim to make a decision before the end of the month."
Trott said he can't say how many people will be on the short-list because not all of them have been contacted.
"They are all overseas applicants," he said adding that the candidates are from North and South America as well as Europe.
"They all come with a high degree of experience within different levels.
"All of them have pretty impressive records."
Trott said they have all coached at the national level or coached a professional team.
He would not comment on any of the names mentioned in the Gazette last week, though Simoes has already told the press in Jamaica, where he coached the Reggae Boyz to the World Cup, that he was not interested in the job and has had no contact with the BFA.
