12.11.07 - Harbour View FC (Jamaica), Joe Public FC (Trinidad & Tobago), Puerto Rico Islanders and San Juan Jabloteh (Trinidad & Tobago) have earned the places in the semifinals of the 2007 CFU (Caribbean Football Union) Club Championship following their quarterfinal victories on Sunday. The Caribbean Tournament, taking place in Trinidad & Tobago, will qualify one team to the 2008 CONCACAF Champions’ Cup™.
Kevin Bryan and Fabian Taylor scored for the 2004 Caribbean Champions, Harbour View FC as they defeated Portmore United FC of Jamaica by a score of 2:0 in the first quarterfinal encounter at Marabella’s Manny Ramjohn Stadium. Meanwhile, in the second match-up in Marabella, Gason Gregory scored the only goal for 2003 Caribbean Winners, San Juan Jabloteh in the 1:0 triumph against Haiti’s Baltimore de St. Marc.
In another quarterfinal match at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Noel Fabrice scored twice to lead the Puerto Rico Islanders to a 7:1 victory over SV Leo Victor of Surinam, the first time a team from Puerto Rico has reached the semifinals of the Caribbean Club Tournament.
In the second encounter at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Roen Nelson notched three goals for the 2000 Caribbean Champions, Joe Public FC in the 4:0 win against Bassa SC of Antigua & Barbuda.
The semifinals of the 2007 CFU Club Championship will take place on 14 November with the following match-ups: Harbour View vs. San Juan Jabloteh and then the Puerto Rico Islanders vs. Joe Public at the Marvin Lee Stadium.
The winners will compete for the CFU Club Championship on 16 November at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.
The Caribbean Tournament winner will progress to the 2008 CONCACAF Champions’ Cup™, joining the defending champion Pachuca CF, another Mexican side; D.C. United, one more club from the USA; along with CD Motagua of Honduras, Costa Rica’s Deportivo Saprissa and another Central American club.
