St James FA, referees settle impasse

With the impasse between the St. James Football Association (StJFA) and the St. James Referees Group (StJRG) now settle, action will resume in the 2007 Hart & Sons Senior League this afternoon with four first round games.
"We had a final meeting with the StJRG on Monday night and everything is now in place for the resumption of football," said Lilli-Mae Crawford, who heads the St. James FA's competition committee. "The appointments for the games have been submitted to the group."
Two weeks ago, the StJRG stated publicly that they did not recognise the FA as their parent body and refused to take instruction from them. The FA promptly suspended the group and sought the intervention of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and Jamaica Football Referees Association (JFRA) to clarify the status of the referees' group.
At a subsequent meeting presided over by the JFF's General Secretary, Burchell Gibson, and the JFRA's Peter Prendergast and Charlie Barrett, the referees were told that the FA had jurisdiction over all football in the parish, including the referees. With the referees accepting the JFF's and JFRA's position, the way was paved for the resumption of football.
'I am optimistic'
"That matter is now behind us and we are hoping it will stay there so that we can have a good season without any problems," said Ms. Crawford. "I am optimistic that we will not have any further problems."
The fixtures for today's games read as follows: Champions versus To-morrow's People at the UDC playing field; Mountain Villa against Melbourne at the Wyndham playing field; Reggae Lions versus Violet Kickers at Bogue and Juniors against Catherine Hall at Albion Youth Centre.
The competition, which is sponsored to the tune of $1 million by the Hart Group of Companies, is being contested by twelve (12) teams. The breakdown of cash prizes reads as follows: The winner will pocket $150,000, second place $90,000, third $50,000 and fourth $30,000.
