Zurich, 14 September 2006 - The Bureau 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ drew altogether positive conclusions at its meeting in Zurich today - Thursday, 14 September. Chaired by FIFA vice-president Lennart Johansson (Sweden), the Bureau discussed several organisational points in relation to the World Cup as part of a debriefing session and took note of the manner in which every aspect had been impeccably addressed.

FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter again praised the services rendered by the German organisers. "The OC 2006 FIFA World Cup presided over by Franz Beckenbauer and headed by Horst R. Schmidt performed their duties consummately and, above all, successfully," he commented.

FIFA had compiled the sporting conclusions on some of the major football topics in long and intensive discussions as part of the International FIFA Football Symposium and UEFA Conference for National Coaches held from 11 to 13 September 2006, and at the same time reviewed the technical aspects of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™.

The financial news on the outcome is very heartening. According to the accounts, which have yet to be checked by FIFA auditors KPMG, the German organising committee show a revenue surplus of EUR 135 million. The final figures will not be known until all work has been finalised but they could easily exceed this sum.

"The German OC has proved that, by using the resources available cautiously and purposefully, organising a World Cup can be a success story for everyone involved," commented FIFA General Secretary Urs Linsi.

Over the years, FIFA gradually assigned more and more World Cup rights to the local organising committee and ensured a robust financial foundation with further subsidies. The OC 2006 FIFA World Cup had budgeted with an allocation of EUR 430 million, comprising revenue from ticket sales, rights sales to Official Suppliers and a guaranteed EUR 170 million payment from FIFA.

A preliminary agreement allowing for any surplus to be shared would yield a surplus portion of EUR 94 million for the OC according to the provisional figures. On the basis of this agreement, FIFA will receive approximately EUR 41 million in the form of a refund or share in profits. FIFA will use these funds to strengthen its own equity basis and for any unexpected contingencies.

The final figures will not be available until the auditors of the German football association and FIFA have completed their work. These funds will then be allocated to FIFA's accounts for the 2006 financial year and will be presented together with the overall figures for the 2003-2006 World Cup financial cycle at the 2007 FIFA Financial Media Conference in April next year.
