I read on the weekend the words of the womens coach who was very happy in beating up our small island sisters and talked about the ability to motivate the players. One thing that struck me was his inability to transfer the message that you really compete against yourself. Beating up on Antigua or Bermuda is not the same as playing Canada or the USA so he need to instill in the team the attitude of trying to play the perfect game! What would the best team do in this situation mentality. Too often if you asked a first level coach what they think of our womens team, they will say "good athletes lack organization, tactical awareness and fitness" The idea in Canada is they will play with you for 30 minutes then you use your physicality and fitness to wear them down and beat them badly. The mindset of the coach reflects this! he needs to start explaining that beating the big three, Canada, the USA and Mexico is the way forward and that is the measuring stick. Until you can do that consistently beating up on Bermuda and Dominica is really fools gold
