Shots fired at Manning Cup match in Arnett
published: Wednesday | September 19, 2007
Violence reared its ugly head in Arnett Gardens yesterday, forcing the abandonment of the Manning Cup match between Charlie Smith and Denham Town at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex in St. Andrew.
During the half-time interval of the game, in which Charlie Smith was leading 5-0, a group of men was seen adjacent to the gym, near the main entrance to the compound.
The men suddenly bared handguns and started firing at each other, which sent a number of students and teachers scampering for cover.
They then fled the compound. However, when the shooting stopped, women were heard screaming, and a man was seen running towards the entrance with a little boy in his arms. However, up to press time, it was not known whether the boy had been shot.
