Powell breaks 100m world record!!!!!!!!
September 09 2007 at 05:46PM Rome - Jamaican Asafa Powell set a new men's world 100m record of 9.74sec at the IAAF Grand Prix at Rieti, Italy, on Sunday, beating his old mark of 9.77 set in Athens in June 2005.
Powell had predicted in Stockholm at the beginning of August that he felt he was capable of beating the world record this year.
When asked about his physical limits, he said they were around "9.74 or 9.73, even below 9.70".

Jamaican Asafa Powell broke the world 100m record by clocking 9.74 secs at the IAAF Grand Prix in Rieti.
Powell, the bronze medallist at the recent World Championships, set the new record in one of two heats.
The race was run with a strong following wind but it was within the limits set by the International Association of Athletics Federations.
"That's what happens when I start to listen to the coach," said Powell, who appeared to ease up before the line. He first set the previous record of 9.77 in Athens in June 2005 and last year equalled it on two occasions in Gateshead and Zurich.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Great news and hats off to him but aside from his WR bonuses and all that what is this really worth?
he is just confirming what his critics say that he is Kin g of the One day meets and cant manage the rounds and cant beat Gay when it matters. Where was this form two weeks ago?
He MUST win the gold at either Olympics or WC to be considered great, no matter how many times he breaks the WR.Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.

No big man, American hype or Jamaican hype was never my thing. Fact is Asafa's records WILL be broken some times, whether next year or next decade.
Fact is he choked when it mattered most and then admitted that he choked...call it panicked or what you want,..choke is choke in any language.Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.

No man ever ran as fast even adjusted for wind and altitude.
No man ever ran as fast without a trailing wind. No man ever ran 2 9.7s in the same day, much less the same hour.
No man ever ran 5 legal (or illegal) 9.7s....EVER!
Finally, no man ever ran 4 WRs in their lifetime.
