asafa lacks strength... it shows he needs to be running the 200 like gay... this one day one event running on the pro circuit, doesnt do well for athletes when they have to run rounds in the major events... we saw the same thing with asafa against gatlin as we are seeing against gay...
'to get what we've never had, we MUST do what we've never done'
Mental strength..not physical he ran a lot of 400m in the early season so that should set him up for the long season.
But the silver lining here is that this wa shis first global medal plus belive it or not this was also our first ever individual global medal by a purely 'home grown' athlete...that is some one who did not go thru the US Colege system or Britain
Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death. Che Guevara.

Lack of strength?
You are on to something.
He certainly has the leg speed. He was going well up to about 50 metres. He then collapsed. He needs to get stronger to last the rounds well.
This will also kill the high spirits of the Ja team...Asafa could have set the tone for a positive USA vs Ja clashes in the other sprints... Let's hope a even more fragile Bolt, beat Gay in the 200M

We do not give up that easily!
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
The same rock that Asafa was under when he broke the world record and came third when it matters most. I am fully aware of all Bolts accomplishments this year, but I cannot figget the last Championships when him stop run fi nooo reason. I hope he has mature because he was still young when that happened, albeit that is no excuse.

He said he gave up. In fact, he said he panicked and tightened.
Definitely tightened!
Said he panicked! - OK!
Gave up right at the end - means he stopped pushing. That was the only thing at athlete can do at that stage to prevent taking 'baby steps'...coming towards a walk. The replay showed he committed one more error - too early lean...
...but, that relaxation at the end was exactly what had to be done. He calls it giving up - ...obviously that must have been where his head-space was....but, as I said that relaxing at the end is the only thing you can do after tightening up so badly. Continue pressing and you slow even more drastically.
Incidentally if his 'head-space' was give up ...he is in a bad bad state. He needs to concentrate on the mechanics of the 2nd part of his race. The need to after exploding out of the blocks - keeping his form right during the remainder of the race...manage 'effort' vs what is called 'relaxed running'....focusing on his race/remain focused on his race!
He needs to be calm, cool and collected during his races. God gave us minds. He must use his during his races!
--------
Mental preparation - His mental preparation!
1. I am fastest in the World over the distance!
2. OK! - soooo I have lost some key races!
3. Can I do worst...knowing my standing as fastest? I can lose...anything can happen...right? ...but, I must not run less than "MY RACE".
4. The only option for me is to concentrate on "MY RACE" and do the best "MY RACE" I can! To hell with all others in the race!
5. That is the mentally he must take into his races - MY RACE! MY RACE! MY RACE! ...to hell with all others, at the end of the race I'll think on them as I watch the replays!
Aside:
Not too dissimilar to refereeing. Many are the refs who can perform during local competitions and fail at/panic/cannot think straight when in International Matches.
...or, similar to switching from being comfortable and clear headed speaking in small intimate surrounding (or in the comfort of not being seen while on the net) and stepping to the plate to address a large gathering or going on the air live!
Just have to use the mind to retain - clear level-headed thinking cap fimly on head. ...Yup! ...so it is when facing the starter in the big meets. Use MIND/Think!!!
He said he bounced his knees coming out of the block, then tried makng up for it by trying too hard. You are not going to relax if your race didn't start well. Well, it's easy for us to say from our living rooms.
Hold on! "He bounced his knee coming out of the block" but he was leading after 40M. The reaction time to the bounce his knee suffered must be as slow as his reaction time out of the blocks. If he had bounced his knees at the 50M mark, we would be celebrating now.
