Well, that should put to rest that cayliss argument about whether or not he could run a flat 100m well.

Impressive 10.03 by Bolt in Rethymno - Vardinoyiannia report
Usain Bolt (JAM) (Errol Anderson - The Sporting Image) Impressive 10.03 by Bolt in
Wednesday 18 July 2007
The elite sprinters and jumpers who gathered in the city of Rethymno, as well as some World and Olympic Champions in throwing events gave particular prestige to the “Vardinoyiannia 2007” meeting. Jamaica’s Usain Bolt’s impressive 100m personal best of 10.03, the winning time of 11.05 by Torri Edwards in the women’s race, and a deep men’s Long Jump competition which produced 8.31m leaps by Dwight Phillips and Brian Johnson, were but a few of the highlights at the meeting’s 23rd edition.
The Vardinoyiannia is one of a select group of Area meetings at which points can be acquired by athletes to qualify for the IAAF / VTB Bank World Athletics Final.

Jamaica’s 200m star Usain Bolt showed that he can also shine in the shortest track race. Faced with a group of elite American sprinters, Bolt managed a personal best of 10.03 to win the first of two heats, well ahead of Leroy Dixon who clocked 10.07, with another 200m star, Wallace Spearmon third with 10.20.
No one produced a faster time than the Jamaican tonight, as J.J. Jonhson won the second heat with a season’s best 10.10, followed by Trinidad’s Marc Burns and Jamaica’s Christopher Williams, both clocked 10.22.

At the end of the meeting, the American sprinters had shown again in both 200m races. Facing a negative wind mark of 1.1 m/s, Spearmon returned to win in 20.24, ahead of Johnson (20.45) and Rodney Martin (20.53). Jeremy Wariner, the Olympic and World 400m champion, was fourth with 20.57.
Williams won the women’s race in 22.70m, followed by two compatriots: Edwards and Rachelle Boone Smith who clocked 22.86 and 22.96 respectively.

Both I would expect, Bolt on the 2nd leg and Asafa on final leg, turn in something round about 8.65 secs."Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

I've told the story before but it is worth telling again. When Jackie Pusey was the one-girl show for St. Mary's High back in the day, she would run the 2nd leg of the 4x100 relay where she would take the baton at the start of the box, on the curve, and hand it off at the end of the next box, on the curve. This way, they took advantage of her superiority over the other performers by making her run maybe 150 metres of the race. If they didn't win, they certainly placed. We could use Bolt similarly if we didn't have two other very good 100m runners to go along with Asafa.

...still we do not need a Jackie Pusey to tell us that - Bolt did already. he is just about the faster man in the world over 180 meters. he certainly 'covers' all the World's fastest runners 'off the turn' in his 200M and usually leads up to approximately the 180M mark.
...and, he has been showing us for a long time that none of our local runners can cover that 180 meters faster than he can. That being so, why the hell does the JAAA have any person other than Bolt running that leg of our relay since Bolt ran his first 19.00+sec. 200M?
btw - We do have a number of runners outside of Bolt and Asafa running the 100M in 10.01 sec. - through to 10.12 sec. With Bolt, Asafa and two of those runners at peak form and making excellent changes - 4 x 100M World Record is on the cards!"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Maybe 4...but, the USA almost always put their 4 x 100M team together so late it almost always never has time to be TEAM. We can have our best of the best running as a TEAM 'all over the place'...putting together a TOP OF THE WORLD foursome with two or three capable reserves.
TEAM! Thus brilliant changes, that's the key!"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
