I suspect that the comments were part of Sammy's swan song. He is now 32 and given his actual on field performance, captaincy aside, he might be approaching, if he hasn't already done so and surpassed it, his sell-by date. Sammy has always been a likeable guy, seemingly genuine and not wont to frivolity, keeping a sensible and even keel with respect to his duties. Many disrespectful things have been said about him but at the end of the day, he never selected himself, and I think he always tried his best.
