Aside: Take a good look at Merritt's last 75M?

Look at the "Tall running"! Good arms and high kicking knees! ...that is how you keep going when you are "dead on your feet"! RUN TALL, you maintain much, much better=decelerate much slower!

      Just asking!
You always are going to end up having the 'burning of the chest', 'heavy legs', aching upper shoulders and 'oxygen deprived brain' if you give good effort. Matters not if you go off slow or slow in the middle of the race or points between start and end...or finish like a train...but it is true that you have to 'manage your race' well to achieve your fastest time at the distance.

So we all speculate whether or not Javon Francis could have run faster...and what plan could have had him achieve same. I think if he 'got up high=ran tall' he could have again come in 2nd and improved his time. So the next question is, how did he train for such? How was he taught to 'finish on fumes'? Was it even discussed?

I found out about finishing that way=with such a form as I was never fully fit. ...but for my 3 years in Class 1 - 1 year at Western Champs i.e. pre-4x4 at Champs and 2 years at Champs my schools were always in the 4x4 finals and I had a part to play. I was a slacker at training. ...but I was a 200M/400M man or so I told myself. My plan and way of running the 400M was - gun the first 80M...stride out hard but running within my self...at 300M give a burst...at entering the straight I am dead=so "run tall". Concentrate on posture! ...no giving in to the 'pain' and 'rocking', etc....'lift'=turn to arm action and knee lifts...'ignore the pain'=think=concentrate on the form...keep the rhythm going well=maintain!!! ...so Javon is dead from 50M out...turn to the foregoing='run tall'. He would decelerate slower and perhaps knock .03 sec. off his split. That would have been great!!! ...for him, his TEAMmates and Jamacia!!!

Again, compare his finishing form to that of Merritt.

If you observe carefully, you can actually see when Merritt goes 'high'. He has a good form...but he goes even higher when he 'turn's himself on' to respond to Javon. Play it over and over again if you have 'weak eyes'

In Rio, he will likely get the baton in a much better position and there I want him to be as tactically astute as possible, as we WILL have a shot of gold then!
Is it tactically better or technically better we wish him to be?
I think it is technically better in that last 50 - 100M that shall make the difference. He could if his 200M improves at present fitness level go below 43 split. I have watch him in over and over and over... and if he learns to finish at slower rate of deceleration=if he learns how to maintain he 'chops' his time by a significant margin.

It is simple...the faster your flat 200M the easier it is to 'fly'='float' at good speed=burn less energy while maximizing on speed maintained say from 150M through 300M. With good reserves for 'end game'...but even so the technique at the 'end'=100M to tape must be one that allows for 'extremely slow' (relatively speaking when compared to the other runners) deceleration.

Who bun up at 2:57 on the video and what did the Brit commentator say on the final backstretch?

*The British commentator speaks as an ignoramus. It looks to him based on most often seen 400M runners that Francis' deceleration rate would be on rapid. If Merritt found himself in the same spot as did Francis he would not finish as did Francis. Merritt's technique would be as his always is. He would be slowing=decelerating at a slower rate as he would be 'running tall'. He=mentally would be in control of his body and his race.

*What time margin did Francis lose the SILVER by...and the BRONZE? ...and could the commentator have known the rate of deceleration and what Javon's technique would have been - let us take the British runner - to be such that they would be at the finish line in the same time? ...just about impossible to separate by the naked eye? Cho there is too much put into that commentator's emotional outburst. Calling Javon's effort those names was 'crass'.

btw - Did Javon lose the Bronze by a mental lapse at approximately 10M from the tape? It appeared to me that he totally gave in to the pain there...then caught himself=engaged brain and 'come again'=redoubled effort=turned back on effort? Am I seeing things?
