  • Willi, please walk me through why Dawn Harper was

    not disqualified in Monaco?

Used to start in the late'60s early '70s and then she would have been safe but my understanding of this new stuff says, she should have been sent on her way although she did not leave the blocks.
Fact is others left the blocks before the gun.

In my time there would have been a second gun and at least the first person, in this case Stowers would have been sent on her way...but I am thinking the new dispensation says, Harper who first moved & was timed at making such should have been sent packing...????

What have I missed or am ignorant on?
    Thanks!

BTW - The race was this recent Diamond League 100MH.

    Reference Here To Dawn Harper

Karl, my friend, I did not see the women’s 100-meter hurdles you are referring to, and I am sure that Willi will have a suitable explanation.

My question, however, is this: Did Dawn Harper twitch just the upper part of her body and not her feet? A twitch does not necessarily set off the warning system, unless it somehow involves the legs and feet.

In the meantime, I want to simply remind you of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. In the final of that women’s 100-meter dash, Torri Edwards of the USA moved (flinched/twitched) in her blocks while the runners were all in the set position and immediately before the gun was fired.

You may recall that other athletes next to her, in particular Kerron Stewart and Lauryn Williams (and maybe Muna Lee as well) hesitated, as they expected some disciplinary action by way of a second firing of the gun by the starter. Of course, nothing happened. Shelly-Ann Fraser, Sherone Simpson and Debbie Ferguson were not aware of Torri’s flinching, and so had excellent starts.

It says a lot about Kerron in 2008 that, despite a horribly delayed start, she was able to catch Sherone at the line for the first ever women’s shared silver medal in any Olympic Games 100-meter dash. (Kerron, as we might recall, had entered the final as the firm favorite for the gold medal, despite the fact that Torri had the fastest time in the world prior to the Beijing Olympics.)

Twitching can occur without sufficient pressure being applied to the blocks to trigger the warning system.

Like I said above, though, I have not seen a video of that hurdles event as yet.

      Thanks.
I shall post a video when I find it
      ...or...
I am asking anyone who sees a video of the race, inclusive of the 'false start' to post same?
      Thanks!
