Dr. Walton Small, principal of Anchovy High School, won a landslide victory in today's election over the incumbent, Clement Radcliffe of Glenmuir.
In interviews, he appears very humble but already has started talking about some things we have long discussed on this forum. Of course, it would be very arrogant of me to think that our principals not only read this board, but allow our views to influence theirs!
Small believes that facilities need to be upgraded where money can be made at gate. I think we will see mini-stadia around th country. He also wants a negotiating committee in light of the big deals that are coming ISSA's way.
What Small is getting at without knowing it is what I've been pushing for a while. ISSA needs to give up a lot of its daily operations to professionals. High school principals are not business people. ISSA...sports is now big bizniz and the running of our high school sports must step up to meet bizniz expectations. We don't want to get into the bizniz of creating committees for every little thing. ISSA needs to have a skeleton staff of high school principals overseeing real businessmen/women.
Like it or not, our schools are very much our academies and we need to maximise every possibility to improve high school sports.
