Cameron urges athletes to stay at their current schools

MONTEGO BAY, St James — World championship gold medallist and Olympic relay silver medallist Bertland Cameron has urged Jamaican high school athletes to stay at their schools and reject invitations to move to so-called bigger schools.

Cameron, who coached at the high school level for years before starting Cameron Blazers Track Club, was the motivational speaker at Wednesday's launch of the 37th Milo Western Relays at Wexford Hotel in Montego Bay.

While stressing the importance of a solid educational background, the 1983 World Championships 400m champion also urged the students to "keep your options open" and accept overseas scholarships when they are offered.
