For that I would put him in the list of top 25 WI cricketers, or the top 10 list of bowlers.

Shows longevity more than anything else. Settle down, Stoni!

Exactly. In fact he did not dominate any era and was not even the best bowler in his WI teams, except possibly at the very end of his career when all the greats had retired and the team was in permanent decline.

I highly rate Walsh as a man who made the most of his talents and was the consumate professional. However he couldn't make my WI all time team even if I played 4 fast bowlers.

so you rate walsh ahead of holding?

Y'all bring up some excellent points on Walsh, my focus was on achieving the record and longevity, when I look back at other test bowlers I don't think I realized so many had actually passed the three hundred mark plateau. I Aldo forgot about Gibbs as well, I think when looking at this issue it probably should be some basic criteria like length of dominance, overall statistics and championships or major medals won. Thus While Walsh looks great in first two he is not so good in last one. Good talk!! Gamma, Mo, Islandman, Peter!

              Respect, Stoni

Now, if only you could wheel and come again with your UB40 philosophy.

                    Curtley is da man.

Record, schmecord. No better strike bowler, especially when riled up.

Ambrose, Marshall, Holding would be my top 3.

Holding at his fastest was unplayable due to sheer pace.

Ambrose had height and direction, control. Rarely bowled a bad over, very difficult to score off.

Marshall was just so versatile, always coming up with ways to get batsmen out in all conditions. He was VERY fast too.

                        b) Ottey was less consistent and less successful than VCB.
