I tend to agree with you on this Stoni.
I am not against giving it to a teenager in principle but unless he/she performed their feat at the senior level, say scoring in the FA Cup final or reaching an Olympic final, it would have much less weight for me."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

Yes, I like those examples.
Something like Marlene Ottey medalling as a 18yo at the Moscow Olympics. Not sure if she won sportswoman of the year but that was the best performance of the year that I can remember.
Whoa, just checked it Merlene won in 79 and 80, now I need to go find what she did in 79, so she won at 17? Or am I wrong on her age?

Stoni added a realist perspective to it ,twisted my view .I agree with Stoni.Strike my other position.THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!
"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.
"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

We have a history of youths medalling in the olympics from high school or just about leaving,Hyde is just about leaving, i believe, i could be wrong.
If it was done in the past, the sportsman of the year/woman award , then in historical context .Hyde stands a chance.
Its not all black and white.THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

i disagree...what he did has never been done before by a junior at the international level.
if he never does anything else ever that is still an outstanding achievement within the year. he might be a schoolboy but he is a cut above.

It is outstanding, but for me in the context of national Sportsman/Sportswoman of the year a junior level achivement carries less weight. It would have to be a REALLY weak year at the senior level for it to be the dominant performance for me.
Lets take it a step further, suppose a kid won the world U-12 60m dash? Or a youth scored a double century in U-15 international cricket? I think you have to put a weight on these things."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

it is not something that he did one time and it is at a very high level. and yes, weight must be given to the occasion, his age etc and thereafter it is a balancing act.
suppose jamaica won the u-17 football world cup and one of our mplayers won golden boot or mvp of the tournament? surely he ought to be a candidate....

Yes I think such a person would be a candidate.
I wouldn't have a problem with Hyde being nominated, I wouldn't put him ahead of say Hansle Parchment or Andre Russell though."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

ok. fair enough, if he is nominated then it must be considered that he has done something worthy of winning that title and i am ok with that. which leads me back to my inital post that he is a good candidate.
