  • Jaheel Hyde: "LOOK OUT, GREATNESS IS COMING".

Before the 2014 athletics season, Jaheel Hyde posted a picture on the social media outlet Instagram with the words “look out, greatness is coming.”

It was a bold statement to make but one the gifted and versatile Jamaican has more than lived up to in a remarkable year in which he landed the 400m hurdles title at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene last month, and who on Saturday posted a stunning world youth best time of 12.96 en route to 110m gold at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing.

“I planned out my season and achieved everything that I wanted to accomplish,” said Hyde. “It was the complete season for me. I now plan on going home (to Jamaica) and getting some rest.”

      Super Special Jaheel Hyde

      SUPER SPECIAL JAHEEL HYDE
What can one say about Jaheel Hyde that wouldn’t sound like an understatement, especially after his performance at the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. Many will remember the date August 23, 2014 as the day Jaheel Hyde became the first Jamaican male youth to win a sprint hurdles gold medal at the Youth Olympics, the first youth athlete to break 13 seconds in the 110m hurdles, and perhaps the first ever to hold a World Youth, World Junior and Youth Olympic title simultaneously. This is absolutely incredible, even if this is only the second edition of the Youth Olympics.

The last year has been an incredible for the super-talented 17-year-old Wolmerian whose astonishing goal in last year’s Manning Cup final against Jamaica College almost helped his team secure the schoolboy title. It took the talents of another talented Jamaican, Junior Flemming, to deny Hyde and Wolmer’s. On the track however, Hyde has been a juggernaut.

There you go a man that sets ambitious goals way ahead of time, trained with that in mind, continued to improve throughout the season, kept making tweaks to his system, got better and at the end he achieved what he set out to do, damn, that is better than Babe Ruth call out the home run shot or Joe Namath calling the win in Super Bowl 69!!!!

And to think that head to head, Ohara has always beaten him and Tyler Mason at Champs in the sprint hurdles...

            Re: Look out greatness...

After taking a well-earned rest for the next couple of weeks before the new school year starts, with his coach’s blessing, Hyde is likely to re-start playing high school football again.

The question is: Are we to assume that Jaheel and his family wishes him to play Manning football, however, they would follow any advise his T&F coach gives?

Yeah, that kind of sticktoitiveness is admirable. Many of us would hang our heads with repeated beatings.

I think Manning ia a good way to hide out from T&F burnout training in Jamaica.

Well, he did not focus on Champs (Wolmers could not win) so wisely he focussed on regionals and Globals.
