Ok sah .THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!
"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.
"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Oh you are arguing what could have been. Fine. As Mo says Bolt could have been a footballer or an NFL player had he been born elsewhere. I do not dispute that.
For Hyde I am arguing what makes sense given the reality on the ground today."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

I argued that also , see my initial post .
Hyde could be another Bibi, Fuller, Damani etc. What I would say is at this juncture , track offers more in terms of oppourtunity and financial security.
Go for it.Yes i believe in our youths, not the shitstem.THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

What joy are we going to get from a brilliant 400 hurdler, I have seen the greatest ever and the joy is tiny, it is too specialized an event, we don't care, the world does not care about a brilliant 400 hurdler unless he is Also dominating the 110 hurdles which is extremely unlikely.
This youth if he has ball skill needs to play ball and drop the hurdles biz.

Hyde gave the potential to be much better than those guys, if he has real ball skill, carrying and passing, all his other assets will take him very far, not only speed but endurance, which requires superior discipline, it is clear he is an unusual talent, if he has decent to good skill he could be a monster.

Sure but that thirteen yo is slow like molasses, skill with speed is unbeatable, decent skill with speed is also overwhelming, good skill with no speed is nothing just a circus show, good skill with average speed is a journeyman player.

I think Dunny is his best bet at this time. ...but he must be prepared=that is crash course on "understanding the game" and "the how of playing to maximize efforts in a TEAM structure" before Dunny puts him in that situation.
I think he could step into a multi-million dollar earning situation after that "crash course". No one of our children is incapable to absorbing 'course on football'. It is 'the teachers/coaches' who mar them...in other words the difference maker is:
a) quality of teachers;
b) content of course.Last edited by Karl; August 7, 2014, 10:46 AM."Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

...that does not translate into World Class as adult.
Look those of us who have had some experience at coaching track & field recognize that our current adult hurdler Hansle Parchment is the only hurdler that is knocking at the door that opens to pinnacle of World hurdling. Young Hyde for all he has done is nowhere near top adult world 400M hurdler. In track and field it is little differences in tenth of second and fraction of inch that separate the mediocre performer from the top world performer.
I would, after (just/only) observing him on the track with naked eye (no stats on his current 100M, 200M, 300M, 400M speed) and on the football field, make the subjective call that he is closer to developing into top world football player than top world track - 400M - or 400M hurdler.
If he was my son, even if him was good like Dago Gordon I would tell him to choose track.
Then please tell why you think he is potentially top world 400M hurdler (or any other track or field event) in the making?
Thanks!Last edited by Karl; August 7, 2014, 10:35 AM."Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Karl, he is 17! Which 17 y.o. 400M hurdler have you ever heard of who has also been a top senior hurdler? It is one of the most difficult races in Track and Field. He is the World Junior Champ while he is still in the World Youth age group. That is special in itself.
None of us know for sure what is possible with a youth athlete, but we do have a decent idea of what is probable and given his performance to date in both sports and his public declaration that he loves BOTH (very important) I find it difficult to see how from the athletes perspective football is a better career choice for the long term.
We should also remember that Bibi and Fuller were fortunate that they came around at a time when various Jamaican teams were qualifying for World Cup tournaments. Todays young Jamaican football players do not have that. Who is scouting our young footballers today?
I don't have time to post all you have requested but you can watch him here winning the World Junior gold, while constantly looking behind him.

You can't be a world beater in Track and field at 17 and give it up to go make NPL side, manning cup or go a college go play soccer. If you had Manu or Barca or even Bolton a track you it would be different.
As Shabba would say "a just reality" You have time after to fool around. Where is all the above average manning cup ballers of the last few years?- Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.

You know that is the standard he has to attain i.e. top senior hurdler.
You know I used that as "reference point" and not a claim that he be currently listed among top senior 400M hurdler. ...or was that comment by you one deliberately used to create a 'red herring'?

I would conclude that although you sat at the feet of your top world qualified T&F guru, your Dad, you did not grasp all he taught. [That is a pulling of your legs! ...so do not get upset that you missed some of what your Dad had.]
The truth is, a judgment on Hyde the junior 100M hurdler or 400M hurdler having potential to become top senior 100M hurdler or 400M hurdler in the eye of the beholder (expert beholder) includes judgment on potential -
- physical development,
- increased speed,
- speed endurance,
- technical ability as it relates to the discipline(s),
- assumption of 'where the event shall be' in his senior years.
Just to give a few pointers - Last World Champs: Prelim rounds qualifiers had times posted that Hyde currently finds difficult to consistently match. Semis qualifiers posted times currently outside his reach.
Question: Will each succeeding Senior Champs - World & Olympic - have the bar raised?
All the finalist had best 200M times of 20.06 through 21.00 change.
I would hazard a guess that in 4 years the finalists will be posting 20.00 through 20.50 200M run...or faster. That would be some of Hyde's senior years (He may be considered our senior man by the time he is 18...i.e. next year).
Will he be running the 200M in 20.5 or faster by then?
Will he then be running the 400M hurdles on or around 48.00 sec. or faster?
Will he ever run 400MH in 46.00 change?
Then there is the loneliness of training for that grueling event ~ murda in and of itself ~ and the loneliness when competing...plus temptations outside of that...when compared to the TEAM/group training of football and the known less effect outside temptations cause [e.g. the EPL and English players known affair with the bottle and their continued good performances in their top divisions - Georgie Best most touted example(?)]?
We should also remember that Bibi and Fuller were fortunate that they came around at a time when various Jamaican teams were qualifying for World Cup tournaments. Todays young Jamaican football players do not have that. Who is scouting our young footballers today?

Track & Field ...and we have expert teachers/coaches in that field. Unlike football where our teachers/coaches are **** poor.
mmm?
Where are all the above average track athletes of the last few years?
Let us say last 5 years (Do not wish to stress you by going further back in time?)
How many would be considered above average?
...only the winners of Class 1 events? ...or through to 8th place?
...and those who 'made it'?
Yup! Tell us those who placed at Champs? Complete totals?
...then those who made it? Complete totals?"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
