http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw7O350OnSU The Rockford (Illinois) Ice Hogs won the United Hockey League Colonial Cup championship Thursday night with a 3-1 home win over the defending champion Kalamazoo (Michigan) Wings. The Ice Hogs won the series four games to three.
The Ice Hogs were the third-division affiliate of the NHL Nashville Predators. My beloved Milwaukee Admirals are Nashville's second-division affiliate. Many Rockford players spent time in Milwaukee as temporary replacements, either for injured Milwaukee players, or for Milwaukee players who were in Nashville.
Rockford is 90 miles from Milwaukee, and I have been to about 10 games in Rockford this year, but not this one.
Next year, the Ice Hogs will join Milwaukee in the American Hockey League
as the affiliate of the NHL Chicago Blackhawks. Now I can yell "Chicago Rejects" at their players. Few, if any, of the Ice Hogs players seen here
will be on next year's team.
Here is the video of the final seconds of the game. Rockford is wearing the white jerseys. There were 6,200 fans in the 7,000-seat Rockford Metro Centre.
