Can anything be more boring than test cricket commentary?

It has become more apparent to me that the traditional version of cricket is not suitable for professional sports in the modern era. It is still useful for developing certain skills like concentration at the crease and mental toughness, but I think it should be used more as a training tool for T20 and 50 over cricket, like how athletes run 1000m repeats when building stamina.

I agree, I-man. Is golf any different? Should golf transition into a "faster" sport than this 4 day event? In many ways, test cricket and golf are similar, the main difference to me being golf's best day is it's last, while in test cricket you may not get to a last day.

Golf is not too different, but professional golf has at least these 2 things in its favor over Test/First class cricket.

1) At the end of 4 days of a tournament you WILL have a winner!

2) In golf, all the top players can play in the same tournament over a few days.

Can you imagine Test cricket World Championship? Actually they were considering one:

According to an announcement made by the ICC at their headquarters in Dubai in 2010, the format will comprise an inaugural league stage, played over a period of four years (WTF???), with all ten current test cricket nations of the ICC (Australia, India, England, South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, West Indies, Zimbabwe, and Bangladesh) participating. After the league stage the top four teams will take part in the play-offs, with the final determining the Test cricket champions.[14]

No decision has been made concerning how to decide the outcome of drawn matches in the knock-out stages.
